Full Description
Second World War air raid wardens and air raid siren post at the junction of School Path with Wrotham Road, Gravesend. It was a recantgular building with a siren on its flat roof. Probably built in 1939 and decommissioned by the end of the war in Europe, in 1945. It was one of a network of posts serving Gravesend and was a loacl focus in the incident reporting chain to the Control Centre in Gravesend. Its wardens also enforced blackout restrictions. Its air raid siren was for warning the community of an impending attack and to give the all clear. The post may be a brick structure enclosed within an evidently later concrete building.
