Full Description
Second World War air raid wardens post built in 1939, within the Gordon Recreation Ground, close to the boundary fence near its SW corner. This was a rectangular concrete structure with a flat concrete roof, having a staggered entrance in its eastern side. As one of a network of such posts serving Gravesend, it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid. It was also a place from which patrolling wardens enforced blackout restictions. It reported to the control centre in Gravesend. It would have been decommissioned by the end of the Second World War in Europe, was demolished in the 1980s, and is now a lawned area.
