Full Description

Second World War air raid wardens post in the rear garden of the Campbell Arms public house, in Granville Road, Gravesend. It is a rectangular concrete structure, having a fluted external appearance from the use of corrugated iron sheets as shuttering, and a flat roof, probably built in 1939. This was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid. It was also a place from which patrolling wardens enforced blackout restrictions. It was decommissioned at the end of the Second World War in Europe but still exists in a derelict state.
