Full Description

Second World War post on the edge of the River Thames at Clifton Marine Parade, for observers to spot for German parachute (especially magnetic) mines dropped into the river. It was small, constructed of red brick, about 2m square to a 2.,2 m. high flat concrete roof. There was a wide observation slit facing the river. Within had been a sighting device and a telephone to report any sightings to a naval control room for removal action and disposal to be undertaken. It was one of a sequence of such posts at 600 yard intervals along the river. It was probably constructed in 1940 and would have been decommissioned by the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945. Demolition took place in about 1990.
