Full Description
Second World War air raid siren at the junction of Hermitage Lane and School Lane, Upper Higham. It was erected on top of a lamp standard lent by the Wardens of Rochester Bridge. It was positioned to warn the surrounding community of the approach of an enemy air raid and to sound the all-clear once the raiders had passed. The siren was erected in 1939 and discontinued probably by the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945. The siren and the lamp stsndard were subsequently removed, probably in 1946.
