Monument record TQ 77 SW 1049 - Bull Lane Second World War searchlight site, Higham

Summary

A Second World War anti-aircraft searchlight battery which was located in a strip of land extending north-east from the junction of Bull Lane and Gore Green Road. The installation comprised five buildings of varying size adjacent to Bull Lane with traces of a support road extending from these to the circular ring around searchlight, and NNW from this to two further locations of former structures already removed when the site was photographed in 1946. These appeared as sub-circular marks between 5-6m across. The entire site was mapped from 1946 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
