Full Description
Second World War air raid wardens post at the Fleet Tavern, on the west side of Waterdales. It was established within the premises sometime in 1939, as a short-term solution until a permanent site elsewhere could be secured. The post was a local point of contact within the communiity and was to be used to report the effects of an air raid to the Countrol Centre at Northfleet Town Hall. Its wardens also enforced blackout restrictions in the neighbourhood. The room occupied and the nature of any adaptations to the public house are unknown. The post was discontinued in February, 1940. The Fleet Tavern was demolished c. 1990 and its site is now occupied by residential housing.
