Cold War air raid siren on the roof of the Cooperative Society, The Hill, Northfleet. The siren was installed in January, 1952. It formed part of the system to warn the local population of an approaching enemy air raid and to sound the all-clear afterwards. By a variation of the tone, it could also warn of the approach of radioactive fallout. The siren was removed on 6th May, 1958, at the request of the Cooperative Society. The building still exists, reused by a social care organisation. It is unknown whether there are any roof traces of the fixings for the siren.
