Full Description
Second World War Defended Locality DL23, centred on the junction of the Watling Street and Wrotham Road, Gravesend. It consisted of an array of weapon pits sited to oppose enemy traffic along the Watling Street and crossing it, north, along Wrotham Road. The garrison was 109 Home Guard (with a reserve of 23), armed with 69 rifles, 9 Browning Automatic Rifles, 2 Northover Projectors and 4 tank guns. Decommissioning would have taken place by early in 1944. Nothing of this Defended Locality remains.
