Full Description
Second World War basement air raid shelter at the Wardona (formerly the Star) Cinema, on the south site of the High Street, Northfleet. It was established by 1940 for the safety of the cinema's customers. Its form and design are unknown but typically would have involved strenthhening of the basement with a bracing of timber struts. It would have been decommissioned by the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945 and strutting removed probably later in the same year. The cinema was demolished in 1957 and its site is now occupied by a car dealership.
