Full Description
Second World War Emergency Water Tank utilising the former Gordon Pleasure Gardens swimming pool, Gravesend. Supplementing the mains, it was to render an instant supply of water for fighting fires in the neighbourhood, in the event of an air raid. This use probably originated in 1940. The pool would have been decommissioned for war emergency purposes at the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945 and infilled, probably in 1946, as a newer pool had been provided nearby.
