Second World War air raid wardens post within a 1930s Welfare Centre on the west side of Windmill Street, Gravesend. It would have adapted a room or rooms within the Centre. It was one of a network of such posts to serve Gravesend. It reported to a civil defence control centre in Gravesend. As such it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage in their vicinity resulting from an air raid. Its patrolling wardens also enforced blackout restrictions. The post originated in 1939 and would have been decommissioned by 1945. The Welfare Centre was demolished c. 1960. Its site is now occupied by part of Gravesham Borough Council's Civic Centre.
