Full Description

Second World War air raid wardens post at the junction of Leith Park Road with Sandy Bank Road, Gravesend. The post was one of a number serving Gravesend. It reported to a local Civil Defence Control Centre. As such, it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or bomb damage sustained in its neighbourhood. Its patrolling wardens also enforced blackout restrictions. It probably originated in 1939, to be decommissioned in 1945 and destroyed c. 1948.
