Second World War Air Raid Precautions Headquarters at 31 Harmer Street, Gravesend. Established in February, 1939, it adapted former domestic asccommodation in a 19th century row of terraced housing. Details of the adaptation are not known. The premises were used as administrative offices and for personnel training purposes. The Control Centre for handling air raid incidents was at the Old Town Hall in the High Street. Its functions were transferred to St. Mary's School at Echo Square, Gravesend in April, 1940. The building survives.
