Second World War air raid wardens post on the south side of Rochester Road, Gravesend, next to the entrance to the later St. John's School. It was of rectangular plan, about 4 m. square and built of brick with a flat concrete roof. A staggered entrance was on its western side. This formed one of a network of such posts which served Gravesend. It reported to a Civil Defence Control centre, elsewhere in Gravesend. As such it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid. It was also a place from which patrolling wardens enforced blackout restrictions. It probably originated in 1940, to be decommissioned in 1945 and demolished in 2003.
