Summary
Second World War Civil Defence Control Centre in Windmill Street, Gravesend for the coordination of the emergency services in the event of damage or injury from an air raid in Gravesend. It replaced the earlier control centre at the Police Station in the old Town Hall in High Street by occupying the basement of the new Police Station built in Windmill Street in 1942. The centre was decommissioned in 1945. The Police Station was demolished in 1973 and rebuilt in 1975, incorporating on display the foundation stone of the Civil Defence Control Centre.
