Second World War Civil defence Control Centre in Windmill Street, Gravesend, for the coordination of the emergency services in the event of damage or injury from an air raid in Gravesend. It replaced the earlier control centre at the Police Station in the old Town Hall by occupying the basement of the new Police Station built in Windmill Street in1942. It incorporated a bomb-proof parade room, telephone exchange, control rooms and other accommodation. It was also designated as a Police Battle Headquarters. The exact layout has not yet been discovered in records. The Police Station was demolished in 1973 and rebuilt in 1975, incorporating on display, the foundation stone of the Civil Defence Control Centre.
