Second World War air raid wardens post and air raid siren on the south side of Watling Street at Singlewell, Gravesend. This was a rectangular concrete building with a flat roof, on which the siren was mounted. It was built in 1939. It reported to a Civil Defence Control Centre in the middle of Gravesend. As such, it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid. Its patrolling wardens also enforced blackout restrictions. The siren was to warn the nearby community of approaching air raiders and to announce the all-clear. It would have been decommissioned by 1945 and was demolished c. 1965.
