Full Description
Second World War air raid siren at a waterworks site on the north side of Leith Park Road, Gravesend. It probably originated in 1939, perhaps mounted on the upper part of one of the existing structures. Its purpose was to warn the surrounding community of the approach of enemy air raiders and to give the all-clear once the raiders had passed. No other details of this installation are known. It would have been decommissioned by no later than the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945 and probably removed in 1946.
