Full Description
Second World War air raid wardens post on the west side of Windmill Street, Gravesend, in the garden space of a private house, opposite Leith Park Road. It was part of a network of such posts covering Gravesend but its design and form are not known. It reported to a civil defence control centre in the middle of Gravesend. As such, it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid. Its patrolling wardens also enforced blackout restrictions. It probably originated in 1939, to be decommissioned by 1945 and probably demolished by 1946.
