Full Description
Cold War Civil Defence Control Centre in the basement of Gravesham Borough Council's Civic Centre, Wrotham Road, Gravesend. Full details of design and layout are not yet known but it occupied a suite of rooms from c. 1975, one of which was a communications centre, containing a government Emergency Communications Network terminal and radios for the RAYNET organisation. The entrance was from within the eastern side of the ground floor of the Civic Centre, with an emergency exit into the open air on the Woodville Halls (theatre) side of the building. The Control Centre was decommissioned in late 2005, with all equipment removed, to become a suite of council offices and stores.
