Full Description

Second World War trench-tunnel air raid shelter under the recreation ground of Dashwood Road, Gravesend. It was built in 1940. Its desgn is not known but it is likely to have been a grouping of joined lengths of tunnel, with several entrances and emergency exits, with some latrine rooms. It would have been decommissioned by the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945. This probably involved the sealing of entrances by 1946 and the making good of the surface of the recreation ground. It is probable that there are archaeological remains of the shelter.
