Full Description
Col War emergency reserve Post Office telephone communications bunker at the present British Telecom telephone exchange on the NE corner of the junction of Ordnance Road with Milton Road, Gravesend. This was to have been brought into use in the event of the disruption of normal services as a result of a nuclear attack. It is thought to have consisted of a small chamber for a telephone switchboard, with adjacent sleeping accommodation. No other details are known. It is believed that bunker originated at the time the telephone exchange was built in c. 1960. It would have been decommissioned at the end of the Cold War in 1990 and is said still to exist.
