Monument record TQ 67 SW 1327 - Springhead Road Second World War Drill Hall, Northfleet
Summary
Second World War Territorial Army drill hall on the eastern side of Springhead Road, Northfleet. It was built in 1939, ceased to be used for military purposes in about 1965, subsequently becoming a Gravesend Council leisure centre and was demolished to make way for private housing built in the mid-1980s. It formed part of a general movement at the end of the 1930s to provide training facilities for an expanded army reserve, in anticipation of war with Germany. It was a neo-Georgian brick building on two storeys, with a central hall for drilling and instruction with rooms at the side for offices and stores. There were garages and areas for vehicle parking outside.
