Full Description
Second World War public air raid shelter in the basement of the Super Cinema at 51 New Road, Gravesend. It formed part of a network of public shelters in commercial and public premises in the central area of Gravesend. Details are unknown but this would have involved strenghtening of the basement through provision of timber strutting and anti-gas warfare facilities.. The shelter was formed in September, 1939 and would have been decommissioned at the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945, although the basement is thought still to exist.
