Full Description
Second World War public air raid shelter formed from the footway tunnel south of Rose Street, Northfleet which passes north-south under the North Kent railway line. It is brick-arched and about 20m long. Commissioned c. 1940, the entrances were protected with sand-bagged walls, and later by concrete. It would have been decommissioned by 1945. The tunnel then resumed in use as a footway and at a later but unknown date, was blocked with brick and concrete at either end.
