Full Description
Second World War surface air raid shelter built c. 1940 in the rear playground of Cobham Primary School, The Street, Cobham, for the protection of its pupils. It was rectangular (14m x 4 m), constructed of brick with a flat concrete roof. It had a single shelter room, with an airlock entrance from the outside at either end. Parts of the timber airlock frames survived. Within the shelter room were air vents with internal anti-gas shutters. The shelter was discontinued in 1945 and appears to have been used as a school store for a time. It was demolished in 2005 to make way for a new school building.
