Summary

Second World War rest centre at St. George's School, Meadow Road, Gravesend. This 1930s school was designated as one of a number of rest centres in the district in which basic cooking facilities, utensils and bedding would be provided within a temporary place to stay for those who were displaced from their homes by the effects of enemy bombing. The designation originated in March, 1941 and presumably continued until 1945. The exact areas of the school to be used are not known, The school still exists, with supplementary post war classrooms added.
