Full Description

Underground Second World War garden air raid shelter at the rear of 50 Walmers Avenue, Higham, Nr. Rochester. It is a narrow trench shelter, externally 2.4 x 1 m, lined in concrete, with a low domed roof, just above ground level. It is entered down steps from its southern end. It could not be accessed to be examined but appeared to be about 70cm wide internally and very cramped, with low headroom. It is thought to have been built by, or for, the occupiers of the house in 1939 and would have been discontinued for air raid precautions purposes in 1945.
