Full Description

Second World War concrete road on north-south axis across Shorne Marshes connecting the Operation Overlord embarkation hard on the riverbank in front of Shornemead Fort (NGR 569175.174810) via the railway level crossing to the south (NGR569465.173665) with the road network of the hinterland. It is a single-track road about 4 m. wide. There are several passing places along its length. Laid probably in late 1943 and continues in use as a footpath.

A concrete road constructed during the Second World War to serve the D-Day embarkation hard at Shornemead Fort. The road extends north from the railway, and extension of Queen's Farm Road, extending across Shorne Marshes, curving around the rear of the fort to the river bank, a total of 1.4km in length.

These features were all mapped from historic RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
