Full Description
Second World War air raid wardens post next to or within the Old Prince of Orange public house, in the NE angle of the junction of Old Road East and Windmill Street, Gravesend, Kent. Its design is unknown. As one of a network of such posts serving Gravesend, it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinatiing the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid and its wardens enforced blackout restrictions. The post reported to a control centre for Gravesend. It existed by 1939 and was decommissioned by no later than 1945. Although there are no traces of the post, the public house remains.
