Civil Defence Control Centre spanning the period from 1938-1970 at the former Northfleet Urban District Council's Town Hall, Council Avenue, Northfleet, Kent. This was a command post for coordinating the local civil defence rescue services in the event of the community suffering the effects of air bombardment during war. It had communication links with air raid wardens posts across the council area. The Town Hall originated as a 19th century large residential house. At the beginning of the Second World War, the control rooms were extemporised from use of cellars but this arrangement was succeeded by a purpose built small suite of rooms, established partly under the back of the building and the rear car park. These were refurbished and extended in 1954. The control centre was discontinued in c. 1970. Its rooms survive.
