Full Description

[TR 012 609] Romano-British and Anglo Saxon burials were found near this site (TR 06 SW 16) between 1846 and 1849. Although no La Tene grave groups survive, three Aylesford- type brooches (2 silver, one bronze) are preserved in the British Museum Gibb's collection and probably derive from one or more cremation graves. (1) Among the material in the Gibb's Collection, there are three brooches: (i) Incomplete brooch, lacking the foot. Boss on the bow and a 4-coil spring with internal chord; (ii) possibly a pair with (i) but only the head and spring survives; (iii) Bronze brooch, wth open catch plate. It has an indistinct, worn, boss on the bow and lacks a spring. The omly information available is that the objects in the Gibb's Collection were `for the most part found in graves in a locality adjacent to Faversham in Kent, known as the King's Field' (2)
