Type 24 Pillbox eastern harbour Dover, Swingate, Upper Road, observed in military aerial photographs during the S E Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey.  Pentagon in shape the pillbox is approximately 5m in width and almost surrounded by barbed wire some 30m to 40m away.  80m to the south a barrage ballon complex was positioned and 150m to the west the Chain Home Radar Station was situated.  It was mapped from photography taken in December 1945 [1]. It was first observed in December 1941 [2] and last visible in August 1968 [3] but demolished by July 1983 [4].
