Concrete anti-tank pillbox type 28 facing E, entrance and gunport blocked. Part of the defences for Lodge Hill ammunition depot

This feature is recorded in the English Heritage report on the Second World War Stop Line in the Hoo Peninsula, part of the wider Hoo Peninsula study. The report states: "A concrete anti-tank Type 28 pillbox facing east - part of the defences for Lodge Hill Royal Naval Ordnance Depot and the stop line. Recorded on 2011 aerial photographs but under partial tree cover by 2013 (Google Earth). The entrance and embrasures are blocked. (2)

TQ 7668 7428. The anti tank gun emplacement or pillbox described in authority 1 has been mapped from aerial photographs, and its position identified more precisely, as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The rectangular gun emplacement, which faces east, is located to the north of Lodge Hill Royal Naval Armaments Depot (Monument 1077634). It formed part of the defences of the Hoo Stop Line (Monument 1542577), a system of anti tank ditches, gun emplacements and pillboxes constructed in 1940 across the south western third of the Hoo Peninsula, from the Medway to the Thames. An identical anti tank pillbox, facing west, is located 107 metres to the west (Monument 1426099). (2-3)

The pillbox is located on agricultural land to the north of the Lodge Hill Deopt, and can be seen as a surviving structure on aerial photographs taken in June 2011. (4)
