[Name TR 16143836] Roman Camp [G.S.] (Site of) (1) The given siting lies below a saddle on Tolsford Hill, a most unsuitable position for a defensive earthwork. No traces of an earthwork of any sort were encountered anywhere on the hill. (2) Newington. A Roman camp is said to exist on the hill behind Beechborough, but no Roman remains have been noticed, except `Roman coins' vaguely mentioned as found at Newington by Gale and Stukeley.
