[TR 15493578] Brockhull [G.T.] (Rems. of) (1) In 1608, the manor of Brockhull, alias Thorne, was subdivided into two parts, the stone-built mansion of Brockhull, now ruinous, going with one half. The `New Buildings', alias New Brockhull [q.v. TR 13 NW] were built in 1611 on the other half. (2) A chapel at Brockhull Manor House, Saltwood, licenced in 1310, now (1880) forms part of a cottage. (3) Mr. Elliston Erwood confirmed that Brockhull is the earlier manor house. C17th Account Books seen by him refer to the `New House'. The property boundary walls in the back and front gardens of "The Croft" and "The Pleasance", modern detached private residences, incorporate stretches of Kentish ragstone, no part of which can with certainty be identified with the manorhouse. At TR 15493578 there is a deep, stone-lined circular well, now covered with a concrete slab. A summerhouse behind "The Pleasance" is built up of fashioned stone, some of which carries Early English characteristics. 1/1250 Published survey revised. (4)
