Summary

A Second World War reinforced concrete Type 24 shell-proof pillbox. On River Medway foreshore within Cockham Wood, east of Lower Upnor. This pillbox can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947 and was mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Type 24 shell-proof pillbox. [Recorder Alexander gives NGR - TQ 773713].

Pillbox. Concrete type 24 pillbox on foreshore facing S across River Medway and enfilading beach E and W. Narrow wall version with brick skin. Although in good condition itself, the pillbox has tilted about 10 degrees S, due to subsidence below concrete slab.On River Medway foreshore, E of Lower Upnor. (1)

This Second World War pillbox at the edge of Cockham Wood can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. It is centred on TQ 7693 7125 and was mapped from air photos as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(2)
