Full Description
‘In May 1939 a demonstration air raid shelter was dug in the recreation ground "in the far corner under the trees" to illustrate to the parishioners how the shelters should be constructed.’ This was probably the Sports Ground next to the village school, which was extant at this time and meets the description in having a lightly wooded boundary. It may well have been a private shelter - possibly of Andersen Shelter form - which is interesting given the relatively early date.
