Full Description
Late in 1939 a Cleansing Station was built at the Civil Defence Depot between Pound Lane and St Peter’s Lane, where civil-defence personnel whose duties had brought them into contact with poison gas could go for decontamination. This is almost certainly a red brick building on the north side of the present Car Park, which appears to have been converted into offices. In mid January 1940 the military asked for permission to use it for their baths. It may, subsequently, have been opened to the public.
