Full Description
There was a Second World War Civil Defence warden’s post (Post ‘A/2’) at the Cattle Market on Upper Bridge Street. This was an ‘advanced post (operated continuously and not just on Action Warning) and as such, it was supplied with electricity in October 1939, made waterproof, and provided with an electric fire. In May 1942, or shortly after, a special post was erected here, for use under Nodal Point conditions; this was presumably of more substantial (perhaps reinforced concrete) construction. In April 1943 the number of warden’s posts was reduced and this post was renumbered ‘A/1.’
