Around the end of February 1941, civil-defence warden’s Post ‘C/9’ moved from a garage at 8 Ethelbert Road to 25 Cromwell Road. The story of this post is extremely convoluted and could do with checking (unfortunately impossible at present). It seems to have moved around, successively, from 67 Cromwell Road to 28 Ethelbert Road, to 8 Ethelbert Road before finally arriving at 25 Cromwell Road. It was accommodated in a room at the house, which was reinforced for the purpose. This appears to have been an ordinary (or ‘Action Warning’) post, only manned on Action Warning. It remained at 25 Cromwell Road until February 1943 or later. There is reason to think it was redundant by April of that year.
