Full Description
Around April 1943, as part of a rearrangement of Canterbury’s civil-defence wardens post, a new post was created at 3 Guildford Road, in a purpose-built, reinforced concrete surface shelter. This was designated Post ‘B/3’ – the previous post of that name, in Hollow Lane, having been made redundant. It was commented that this site was ‘on the right hand of Guildford Road going up, on the corner where the secondary road way runs parallel to Martyr's Field road.’ That is to say it was in the end of the alley behind the houses on the south side of Martyrs’ Field Road, to the west of Guildford Road. This is actually nearer 2 Guildford Road, but possibly the warden lived at No. 3.
