Full Description

There was a Second World War Civil Defence warden’s post (Post B/3) at Forge House, near the Wincheap end of Hollow Lane. This was an ordinary (or ‘Action Warning’) post, only manned on Action Warning, and accommodated, as appropriate, within a room of the house or an Andersen shelter in the garden. The room had no special protection so the shelter may have been favoured. Around the end of 1940 the sandbags protecting the post were replaced by concrete blocks. The post was made redundant in April 1943, when the warden’s service was rationalized.
