Full Description
There was a Second World War Civil Defence warden’s post at Lady Wooton’s Green. It is not clear whether this was Post ‘D/3’ or ‘D/4’ initially, but by July 1940 the two posts had merged and this was the representative. This may have been an ‘advanced post’ manned continuously rather than just on Action Warning like most. This is uncertain, however - based solely on known events in its history. A supply of electricity was provided to the post around October 1939. Around May 1942 a special post, probably of concrete construction, was erected here for use under Nodal Point conditions. In a rearrangement of around April 1943, however, it was made redundant, seemingly because there was not much left to protect on Lady Wooton’s Green. It was replaced by a new post on the site of the Leopards Head public house.
