There was a Second World War Civil Defence warden’s post (Post ‘C/5’) at the house called ‘Inchicore’ on the south side of New Dover Road, near its eastern end. This was an ordinary (or ‘Action Warning’) post, only manned on Action Warning. Use was made of a room in the house (without any special protection), and a private (Andersen?) ‘garden shelter’ on the premises. In mid to late April 1941 the wardens seem to have abandoned this shelter for one in the garden of the neighboring ‘Northrepps’ for their ‘protected accommodation’ and asked for the telephone extension to be transferred. This post was made redundant in a rearrangement of wardens’ posts around April 1943.
