Full Description
There was a Second World War Civil Defence warden’s post (Post ‘D/1/2’) in the garden of 1 North Holmes Road. This was an ordinary (or ‘Action Warning’) post, only manned on Action Warning. It was a rude surface shelter of sand bag construction. By early February 1941 it had deteriorated and was unusable. The answer seemed to be to dismantle a concrete constructed post (‘D/7/8’) on the Sturry Road, which had been abandoned due to flooding, and re-erect it at North Holmes Road. This was effected in late May or thereabouts.
