Full Description

Around April 1943, as part of a rearrangement of Canterbury’s civil-defence wardens posts, a new post was erected upon a raised bank at the corner of Puckle Lane and Raymond Avenue. This was a purpose-built, reinforced concrete surface shelter. This was designated Post ‘C/2’ – the previous post of that name, on St Martin’s Hill, was renumbered. It was ‘very centrally situated to cover the three previous points which it [was] proposed to amalgamate, namely C.7 [Lansdown Road], C.8 [Nunnery Fields], and C.9 [Cromwell Road]’.
