Monument record TR 15 NE 895 - Second World War Civil Defence warden’s post and air-raid siren at the junction of Vauxhall Road and Sturry Road, Canterbury

Summary

There was a Second World War Civil Defence warden’s post at the waste water treatment works on Sturry Road. This was an ‘advanced’ post, manned permanently. An air-raid siren was installed at the post in September 1939. The post was of concrete construction but was abandoned due to flooding in October 1939, moving further out along the Sturry Road, to the Gas Booster. The waterlogged shelter was dismantled to be re-erected at North Holmes Road around the middle of 1941.
