Full Description

There was a Second World War air-raid shelter along the intramural face of Canterbury City Wall within the Old Convent Garden. This was a very long (about 60m), narrow structure - possibly with a corrugated-iron roof, dug well below the intramural ground level. It was entered by dog-legged stairs at each end: at the north end from directly in front of 15 The Precincts. This was probably a private (Dean and Chapter?) air-raid shelter.
