Full Description

Following the Nodal Point Conference of May 1941, a number of Nissen-huts were made available for use as air-raid shelters within the defensive perimeter at Canterbury. Two pairs of huts were dug into the Dane John Gardens, and mounded-over with earth. The first such pair seems to have been at the Dane John Mound end of the site. Between them, these two Nissen-huts accommodated about one hundred persons. In mid June there was a plan to add another shelter here, but it was instead installed at North Holmes Road.
